A Business Plan is a document that clearly describes a business opportunity, and how
you propose to capitalise on it.
The Plan contains key elements such as detailed information about the market and your
competition, your management team and the financial details of your project. It's
put together in such a way that someone who knows nothing about you or your venture can
read it and get a clear understanding about what it is you propose to do, how you are
going to do it and why it will succeed.
Every business should have a Business Plan. The process of putting a Plan together
focuses you on your goals and gives your business direction.
Business Plans are used to secure finance to start or expand a business. The Business
Plan shows an investor that you know what you're doing and gives the investor confidence
in you.
Writing a Business Plan is far more than simply writing down what you propose to do.
Going through the process is a valuable exercise and we encourage you to do as much of the
work as possible.
As a minimum you will need to explain what it is your business will do, what the
conditions are in the marketplace and why you feel your company can secceed. You'll need
to share your research and financial information as well.
Biz New Zealand Ltd will collate your information and make sure the data supports your
conclusions. We will work with you to refine your Plan as necessary and put it all
together.
The whole process takes between 5 and 10 working days depending on how extensive your
Plan is and how quickly you get us the information we need. The more work you've done
deforehand the shorter the preparation will take.
The more work you do the less it costs. Our initial meeting is free. After that we
charge you an hourly rate.
The short answer is - yes, you can put a Business Plan together yourself, in fact we
give you the basics of what you need including an outline
here on this site.
There are two important things you should consider, however; your time could probably
be better spent concentrating on other aspects of your business venture, and a Business
Plan is important enough that you really should have a professional do it for you.
Remember too that we are going to involve you as much as possible in the process.
If you've put a Business Plan together in the past you'll also know that having someone
work through the process with you in invaluable. Even if you do most of the work you'll
want someone to look over your shoulder and catch problems that are likely to deter an
investor.
